"Chelsea" of Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk beat the Swiss Servette" in the first match of the 2024/25 Conference League qualification playoff round. The match at Stamford Bridge in London ended with a score of 2:0.
The first half of the match ended in a goalless draw. Immediately after the break, the English club took the lead – Christopher Nkunku earned a penalty, which he successfully converted.
In the 76th minute, the Londoners scored for the second time. Noni Madueke, who came on as a substitute in the second half, received a pass from Enzo Fernandez from deep and accurately shot into the near corner from within the penalty area.
Mudryk played the full match on the field. For the 23-year-old Ukrainian, this was his first game this season, because in the opening round of the Premier League against Manchester City, he remained on the bench.
This is also Enzo Maresca's first victory as Chelsea head coach. Last season he headed Leicester, with whom he won the Championship (the second-ranked football division in England – ed.) and led the club to the Premier League.
The return match will take place on Thursday, August 29, in Switzerland. The winner of the two-legged confrontation will get into the main stage of the Conference League, and the losing team will be eliminated from the European Cups.
In the second round of the Premier League, Mudrik's team will meet Wolverhampton away on Sunday, August 25.
