Ilkay Gundogan will play for the Citizens again.
Manchester City have announced the signing of Barcelona's German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
According to the Citizens' official website, the 33-year-old player has signed a contract with the English club until the end of his season 2024/25. The deal also includes an option to extend for another year.
According to media reports, the midfielder was acquired by Manchester City for free. Barcelona agreed with Gundogan on an early termination of the contract in order to relieve their payroll.
It should be noted that Ilkay only last summer moved from Manchester City to Barcelona as a free agent. The German's agreement with the Catalans was calculated until June 2025 with an option to extend for another season.
Last campaign, Gundogan played 51 matches for Barcelona in all competitions, scoring 5 goals and providing 14 assists.
Previously, Gundogan played for Manchester City from 2016 to 2023. Ilkay played 304 matches in all competitions for the Citizens, scoring 60 goals and making 40 assists.
The German won 14 trophies with the Sky Blues, including five victories in the English Championship and one in the Champions League.
