Elina took several medical time-outs due to problems with her leg.
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina advanced to the second round of US Open 2024.
At the start of the main draw, Svitolina (No. 28 WTA) defeated Argentina's Maria Lourdes Carle (No. 83 WTA). The match lasted 2 hours and 20 minutes and ended with a strong-willed victory for the Ukrainian with a score of 3:6, 6:3, 6:4.
It should be noted that during the match, Elina took a medical time-out three times. Additional tape was applied to her right leg.
In the second round, Svitolina will play the winner of the match between Ukrainian Angelina Kalinina and Frenchwoman Oceane Dodin.
In total, seven Ukrainians will play in the US Open 2024 main draw – this is a new national record. Dayana Yastremska has already been eliminated in the first round, losing to German Julia Niemeyer with a score of 4:6, 7:6, 4:6.
Later, Marta Kostyuk, Angelina Kalinina, Lesia Tsurenko, Ekaterina Baindl and Yulia Starodubtseva, who made it to the main draw of the major through the qualifying sieve, will play their opening round matches.
The main draw of the 2024 US Open will last from August 26 to September 8. The current US Open champion is American Cori Gauff, who last year defeated the “neutral” Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
