One of the best goalkeepers in the history of Poland announced his retirement

34-year-old Wojciech Szczesny has decided to put an end to his career as a footballer.

Former Juventus and Polish national team goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has announced his retirement from the game.

The 34-year-old Polish goalkeeper announced his decision on social media.

The last club in his career was Juventus. The Pole left the Old Lady in August this year, agreeing to an early termination of his contract, which was scheduled to run until the summer of 2025.

Wojciech played for the Turin club from 2017 to 2024, winning Serie A and the Italian Cup three times, and also won the Italian Super Cup twice.

Before that, Szczesny played for London's Arsenal, Brentford and Roma. Together with the Gunners, he won two Cups and the FA Community Shield.

In total, Wojciech played 432 matches at club level, in which he conceded 434 goals.

He played for the Polish national team from 2009 to 2024, played 84 matches and conceded 83 goals. As part of “Kadry”, he took part in two World Championships (2018 and 2022), as well as four European Championships (2012, 2016, 2020, 2024).

The last tournament in his career was Euro 2024, where Szczęsny took part in two group stage matches. At the continental championship, the Poles failed to reach the playoffs, gaining one point in a group with Austria, France and the Netherlands.

It should be noted that after the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the Polish goalkeeper actively helped Ukrainian refugees.

Wojciech's wife is singer and actress Maryna Luchenko, who is originally from Vinnytsia. At the age of two, she moved to Poland with her parents. The couple began dating in 2013 and got married in May 2016. In 2018, their son Liam was born.

Recall that after the victorious match against Saudi Arabia at the 2022 World Cup, Szczesny ended the interview with the slogan “Glory to Ukraine”.
