In terms of the number of medals won, the Ukrainian team is in fifth place.
Ukraine won eight medals on the fifth competition day of the 2024 Paralympic Games.
On Monday, September 2, Ukrainian para-athletes won two gold, two silver and four bronze medals in Paris.
“Gold” was won by Denis Ostapchenko (swimming, 50 m, backstroke, class S3) and Igor Tsvetov (athletics, 100 m, class T35).
The silver medalists were Andrey Trusov(swimming, 400 m, freestyle, class S7) and Ilya Yaremenko (swimming, 50 m, freestyle, class S13).
Bronze medals were won by Sergey Palamarchuk (swimming, 50 m, backstroke, class S3), Alexey Virchenko (swimming, 50 m, freestyle, class S13), Alexander Litvinenko (athletics, long jump, class T36), and Zoya Ovsiy (athletics, discus throw, class F51.
Following five days of competition, Ukrainian Paralympians have already won 35 medals at the 2024 Games: 5 gold, 12 silver and 18 bronze.
After the fifth day of the 2024 Paralympics, the Ukrainian team rose in the medal standings from 11th to tenth place. In terms of the number of awards won, the “blue-yellows” occupy the fifth position.
The undisputed leader in the medal standings of the 2024 Paralympics is China (43 gold, 30 silver and 14 bronze medals). In second place is Great Britain (29+15+10). The top 3 is rounded out by the USA team (13+19+10).
The Paralympic Games in Paris will last until September 8. Ukraine is represented by 140 athletes competing in 17 sports. This is a record number of sports in the Paralympic history of Ukraine.
Recall that at the previous Summer Paralympic Games, which took place in 2021 in Tokyo, Ukrainian athletes won 98 awards: 24 gold, 47 silver and 27 bronze. With this result, Ukraine took sixth place in the medal count and became fifth in the number of awards.
