Oksana Zubkovska triumphs in long jump at fifth Games in a row.
Ukraine has won its second gold medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. Track and field athlete Oksana Zubkovska won the long jump competition (class T12).
The Ukrainian athlete won with a result of 5.78 meters. In the fight for the “gold”, she beat out Spain's Sara Martinez (5.40 meters) and Linda Hamri from Algeria (5.30 meters).
Zubkovskaya triumphed in the long jump at her fifth Paralympics in a row. She has consistently won “gold” in this discipline, starting with her debut Games in 2008 in Beijing.
Zubkovskaya holds the world and Paralympic record, which she set at the 2012 Games in London – 6.60 meters.
For Ukraine, this is the second gold medal at the 2024 Paralympics. The first “gold” was won by swimmer Oleksandr Komarov in the 100-meter freestyle (class S5).
In addition to Zubkovskaya's “gold”, Ukraine has already won another medal on the fourth competition day of the 2024 Paralympic Games. Roman Polyansky won silver in single sculls (class PR1).
As of now, the “blue-yellows” have 21 medals at the 2024 Paralympics: 2 gold, 10 silver and 9 bronze.
The Paralympic Games in Paris will last until September 8. Ukraine is represented by 140 athletes competing in 17 sports. This is a record number of sports in the Paralympic history of Ukraine.
Recall that at the previous Summer Paralympic Games, which took place in 2021 in Tokyo, Ukrainian athletes won 98 awards: 24 gold, 47 silver and 27 bronze. With this result, Ukraine took sixth place in the medal count and became fifth in the number of awards.
