The best scorer in the history of the Uruguayan national team announced the end of his international career.
Inter Miami forward Luis Suarez announced his retirement from the Uruguayan national team.
The 37-year-old footballer announced this at a special press conference.
Suarez will make his final appearance for the Uruguayan national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on September 7.
“It's hard for me to say, but this will be my last game for the national team. I've thought about it a lot and I've decided that now is a good time. It was difficult to make this decision, but the time has come.
I will play with the same enthusiasm I had when I went out for my first game in 2007 against Colombia, with the same desire I had when I was 20. I am 37 now, it will be difficult for me to play in the next World Cup. I'm going on my own, not because of injuries or because they stopped calling me up to the national team,” Suarez said, unable to hold back his tears.
