 "Gold" and "silver": Ukraine wins double podium in swimming at the 2024 Paralympics

Yuriy Shengur and Andrey Trusov became the best in the 100-meter backstroke.

Ukraine won a double podium in swimming in the sixth competitive day of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. In the 100-meter backstroke (class S7), Yuriy Shengur won gold, and Andriy Trusov won silver.

Shengur won the final swim with a time of 1:09:51 minutes. Trusov finished second (1:10:42 minutes). The top three was completed by Italian Federico Bicelli (1:12.23 minutes).

Another Ukrainian, Yevhen Bogodayko, took sixth place, covering the distance in 1:13:89 minutes.

This is already the sixth double podium for Ukraine at the current Paralympics. In total, our team has 38 medals – 6 gold, 13 silver and 19 bronze.

Ukraine moved up to ninth place in the medal standings and is fifth in the number of awards won.

The Paralympic Games in Paris will last until September 8. Ukraine is represented by 140 athletes competing in 17 sports. This is a record number of sports in the Paralympic history of Ukraine.

We remind you that at the previous Summer Paralympic Games, which took place in 2021 in Tokyo, Ukrainian athletes won 98 awards: 24 gold, 47 silver and 27 bronze. With this result, Ukraine took sixth place in the medal count and became fifth in the number of awards.
