 Ukrainian tennis player beats Russian and reaches US Open 2024 doubles final

Lyudmyla Kichenok will play in the main match of the Grand Slam tournament for the second time in her career.

Ukrainian tennis player Lyudmyla Kichenok reached the final of the US Open 2024 doubles.

In the semifinals, the 32-year-old native of Dnipro in In a duet with Latvian Elena Ostapenko, they defeated Chang Hao-Ching from Taiwan and the “neutral” Russian Veronika Kudermetova – 6:1, 6:2.

The match lasted 1 hour and 6 minutes. The Ukrainian and Latvian did not serve a single aces, made one double fault and converted 5 out of 7 break points. They also had 23 winners and 13 unforced errors.

In the final, Kichenok and Ostapenko will play against the winners of the match Ekaterina Siniakova/Taylor Townsend (Czech Republic/USA) – Kristina Mladenovic/Zhang Shuai (France/China). The decisive match of the women's doubles tournament of the US Open will take place on Friday, September 6.

Note that Lyudmila reached the US Open final for the first time in her career. For the Ukrainian, this will be the second doubles final at Grand Slam tournaments. Earlier, she and Ostapenko lost the title match at the Australian Open-2024.

Recall that there are no more Ukrainian representatives left in the singles of the US Open-2024. The most successful among the Ukrainians were Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk, who stopped in the 1/16 finals.
