The first matches of the updated draw of the most prestigious European Cup took place.

In the opening matches of the first round of the main stage of the Champions League of the 2024/25 season, the Italian Juventus confidently beat Dutch at homePSV (3:1), and the English Aston Villa defeated the Swiss Young Boys away (0:3).

Already in the first half, the “Old Lady” scored twice against the opponent – in the 21st minute, Kenan Yildiz opened the scoring, and six minutes later Weston McKennie doubled it.

After the break, Thiago Motta's men made the score a rout – Nicolás González scored in the 52nd minute. The visitors responded only with a consolation goal, which was scored in the 90+3rd minute by Ismael Saibari.

In the second round, Juventus will play away against RB Leipzig on October 2, and PSV will host Sporting the day before.

In the parallel match, Aston Villa created a solid handicap against Young Boys before the break. In the 27th minute, Youri Tielemans opened the scoring, after which Jacob Ramsey made an accurate strike in the 38th minute.

In the 43rd minute, Unai Emery's men scored for the third time, but Ollie Watkins' goal was disallowed due to handball.

In the second half, the Premier League representative continued to dominate the field. John Duran's goal was disallowed for handball in the 78th minute, but Aston Villa still managed to secure a rout with Amadou Onana scoring the final goal in the 86th minute.

Aston Villa will host Bayern Munich in the second round on October 2, while Young Boys will play Barcelona away the day before.

In the updated Champions League format, each team will play eight matches against different opponents in the main round (four at home and four away). All tournament participants have been assigned two opponents from four different baskets.

The eight best teams from the main stage of the Champions League will advance to the 1/8 finals. The clubs that take places 9th to 24th in the overall standings will play paired play-off matches for a place in the 1/8 finals. The rest will finish their performance in European competitions.
