New details have emerged about the unpleasant situation in which the Ukrainian boxer found himself.
The spokesman for the Carpathian Department of the Polish Border Guard Service, Jacek Michalovsky, and the press secretary of the Krakow Balice Airport, Natalia Vince, told the details of the detention of the WBA, WBO, WBC and IBO world champion in super heavyweight Oleksandra Usyk at the airport in Krakow, Poland.
This is reported by Ukrinform.
“The case involved two Ukrainian citizens. One of them was not allowed on the flight, and the other said that he would not fly without him,” Mikhalovskiy said, adding that the person accompanying Usyk was not allowed on the flight.
According to him, the carrier ultimately did not allow both Ukrainians on the flight. They lost their passenger status, but did not want to leave the exit area (gate – ed.).
“This led to a delay in the departure of the plane, and given that they did not respond to the request of the carrier's employees to leave this area, therefore, according to procedure, border guards from the special response group were called,” Mikhalovskiy said.
As the border guard noted, one of the Ukrainians was handcuffed.
“But this was a preventive measure, just to get him to the service room, where he was immediately uncuffed. The men did not resist, but were in an agitated state,” Mikhalovsky emphasized.
According to him, they were interviewed, and the Ukrainian consul also arrived at the airport.
“The detainees did not receive any punishment, only warnings,” stated the representative of the Carpathian Department of the Border Guard Service of the Republic of Poland.
He noted that this is not an exceptional situation: such incidents happen at the airport several times a week.
The border guard also specified that due to this incident, the Krakow-Thessaloniki flight departed with an hour delay.
In turn, in a comment to the agency, the spokesperson of the Krakow “Balice” airport Natalia Vince said that after this incident, the Ukrainian boxer and the person accompanying him left the airport and never returned.
Representatives of the Carpathian Department of the Border Service of the Republic of Poland and the Balice Airport did not report the reason for not allowing the person accompanying Usyk to board the plane.
Earlier it was reported that the media named the probable reasonUsyk's detention at Krakow airport. It is alleged that Oleksandr was supposed to fly to Spain together with his coach Sergei Lapin, but for unknown reasons the latter was not allowed on board the plane and was subsequently detained. In response, the champion refused to fly on his own and spoke out against the detention of his friend, as a result of which they were both arrested.
Recall that late in the evening of September 17, Usyk was detained at Krakow airport. The corresponding video was posted on social networks by the first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Youth and Sports, Zhan Beleniuk.
The boxer's wife, Ekaterina commented on her husband's detention with the words “everything is fine, Oleksandr will explain everything later, nothing criminal.”
Usyk himself has already commented on the detention at Krakow airport. He called the situation “a misunderstanding that was quickly resolved.” He also recorded a video message, where he said that he was already free. The boxer did not give any details about what happened.
