Elina underwent surgery on her right leg.
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina underwent surgery on her right leg.
The 30-year-old athlete announced this on her Instagram, adding a photo from the hospital room.
“Hi everyone. Unfortunately, my 2024 season is already in the history books, as I had surgery on my leg today to correct a long-standing issue that I had been trying to to be decided within this year.
This is the same problem that ended my 2023 season and has hampered me for much of 2024. It has become more difficult to cope with and is increasingly affecting me not only in tennis and training, but in my daily life.
I am excited to be able to focus on my recovery and come back stronger than ever. I am determined to do everything I can to get back on the court and compete at the highest level.
I want to thank you all for your support and encouragement during this difficult time. Your love and positivity mean everything to me, and I look forward to seeing you on the courts in 2025,” Elina wrote on her Instagram.
Recall that Svitolina ended the 2024 tennis season early due to injuries.
This year, Svitolina played in the final of the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland, reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and the 1/8 finals of the Australian Open, US Open and Roland Garros. At the 2024 Olympics in Paris, she stopped in the 1/8 finals. Now the Ukrainian is in 28th place in the WTA rankings.
