Olympic champion Maguchikh nominated for the title of best European athlete in 2024

Yaroslava has found herself among the contenders for the prestigious award for the third year in a row.

The European Athletics Association has announced the names of the nominees for the title of European Athlete of the Year 2024. The list includes Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh.

The 23-year-old Ukrainian will compete for the honorary award with nine other athletes. You can vote until September 29 at this link.

Also among the contenders were: Famke Bol, Sifan Hassan, Emysi Ogunleye, Nadia Battocletti, Nafissatou Thiam, Keely Hodgkinson, Malaika Mihambo, Natalia Kaczmarek and Sirena Samba-Mayela.

It should be noted that Yaroslava has been nominated for this award for the third year in a row, but the Ukrainian has not yet managed to become a laureate of the prestigious prize.

This season, Maguchikh won gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, won gold at the European Championships and silver at the World Indoor Championships, and also became the champion of the Diamond League, winning all the stages in which she took part.

At the beginning of July this year, Maguchikh broke the world record in the women's high jump. At the Diamond League stage in Paris, the Ukrainian was the first in history to clear a height of 2.10 meters. Yaroslava surpassed the achievement of Bulgarian Stefka Kostadinova, who jumped 2.09 meters at the 1987 World Championships in Rome.

Recall that Maguchikh actively helps the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After winning the Olympic gold, she donated 500 thousand hryvnia to the charity organization “Patronage Service of Angels of Azov”, and then donated a million hryvnia to Igor Lachenkov's collection. Yaroslava also donated a million hryvnia to animal rights activists.
