 Ukraine Futsal Team Beats Afghanistan to Advance to 2024 World Cup Playoffs (Video)

Oleksandr Kosenko's team took second place in their group and will face the Netherlands in the 1/8 finals.

Ukrainian Futsal Teamdefeated the national team of Afghanistan in the final, third round match of the group round of the 2024 Futsal World Cup. The match in Andijan (Uzbekistan) ended with a score of 4:1 in favor of the “blue-yellows”.

The Ukrainians opened the scoring in the 15th minute – Yevgeny Zhuk converted the penalty. And a minute later, Daniil Abakshin doubled our team's advantage.

At the start of the second half, Afghanistan reduced the gap – Mehran Golami scored in the 26th minute.

However, the Ukrainian team responded with two goals of their own. In the 37th minute, Mykhailo Zvarych scored, and a minute later, Igor Korsun finally removed the question of the winner of the match, hitting the empty net.

Review of the match Ukraine – Afghanistan

For the “blue-yellows” this is the second victory at this World Cup. In the opening round, Ukraine suffered a crushing defeat to Argentina (1:7), and then destroyed Angola (7:2).

Thus, Oleksandr Kosenko's team took second place in Group C with 6 points and advanced to the 1/8 finals, where they will face the Netherlands, which finished second in Group A.

According to the regulations, the top two teams from each group advance to the 1/8 finals, as well as four of the six teams that take third place in their quartets.

The match between Ukraine and the Netherlands in the 1/8 finals will take place on Tuesday, September 24, at 18:00 Kyiv time.

The Ukrainian national team is taking part in the Futsal World Cup for the sixth time in history. The best result of the “blue-yellows” is fourth place in the debut tournament for our team in 1996.

At the 2004 and 2008 World Cups, the Ukrainian team stopped in the 2nd group round (top 8), in 2012 it reached the quarter-finals, and in 2016 it was eliminated in the 1/8 finals.
