Lunin's super save didn't help: Real Madrid unexpectedly suffered a defeat from Lille in the Champions League (video)

The only goal against the Ukrainian goalkeeper was scored from a penalty.

Real Madrid unexpectedly lost to Lille in the second round of the main stage of the Champions League season 2024/25. The match at the Pierre Mauroy stadium ended with a score of 1:0.

Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Luninmade his first start this season for Los Blancos, as the club's main goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was injured in the recent Spanish league game against Atletico.

In the 25th minute, Lunin made an incredible save when he twice saved his team from shots by Jonathan David. First, the 25-year-old Ukrainian blocked a header from the Canadian, and then managed to get the ball.

However, this did not help Carlo Ancelotti's team to win at least a point in the match against the French club. In stoppage time at the end of the first half, the “Great Danes” scored the only goal, which ultimately turned out to be the winning one – Jonathan David beat Lunin from the penalty spot.

In the third round of the Champions League, the Los Blancos will host Borussia Dortmund on October 22, while Lille will play Atletico Madrid away a day later.
