The Zhytomyr club remains undefeated in the current Ukrainian championship.
“Polesie" defeated “Vorskla" in a home match of the 9th round of the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL) season 2024/25. The match in Zhitomir ended with a score of 2:1.
In the 32nd minute of the match, the hosts opened the scoring thanks to a goal by Venezuelan striker Luifer Hernandez.
In the 40th minute, the Poltava team restored parity in the game thanks to an effort by Ibrahim Kane. So the teams went into the break with the score tied.
In the second half, Imad Ashour's charges scored the decisive goal – in the 71st minute, Artem Smolyakov shot beautifully from afar into the upper right corner.

The victory allowed “Polesie” to lead the UPL standings with 20 points, overtaking “Oleksandria” on additional indicators. Dynamo, which has played one match less, is one point behind them – today the Kyivians will host Kryvbas.
It should be noted that the Zhytomyr club has not yet lost in this season of the Ukrainian championship – six wins and two draws. Vorskla is in 12th place, having 9 points.
In the tenth round of the UPL, which will take place after the international break, Poliesie will host Left Bank on October 19, and Serhiy Dolgansky’s team will play away against Oleksandria on the same day.
