Oleksiy remains in the hospital in Wroclaw.
The head coach of the Ukrainian national team Sergey Rebrov spoke about the health of the midfielder Oleksiy Gutsulyak, who suffered a terrible injury in the match of the 4th round of the group stage of the 2024/25 Nations League against the Czech Republic.
According to him, the 26-year-old footballer was diagnosed with a severe concussion. He continues to remain in the hospital in Wroclaw.
“Unfortunately, a very severe concussion. He is currently in the hospital. The situation is very difficult, so, unfortunately, he is staying here now. Let's see what happens,” Rebrov said on MEGOGO.
Gutsulyak was injured in the first half of the game, colliding with Czech midfielder Tomas Soucek. The Ukrainian lost consciousness for a moment, but after quick medical assistance, he regained consciousness and left the field on a stretcher. He was replaced by Oleksandr Zubkov.
The Ukrainian team played a drawagainst the Czech Republic (1:1) and with 4 points remained in last place in Group B1, which is led by the Czechs with 7 points. Georgia and Albania are in second and third positions, respectively, with 6 points each.
In the next fifth round of the Nations League, the Ukrainians will play Georgia away, and the Czechs will play Albania away. The matches will take place on November 16.
According to the new format of the Nations League, a participant in the group tournament in Division B, where the Ukrainian national team competes, if it takes:
- first place – will rise to Division A;
- second place – will play playoffs for promotion to Division A with the team that finishes third in the Division A group;
- third place – will play playoffs for retention in Division B with the team that finishes second in the Division C group;
- fourth place – will be relegated to Division C.
