Head coach of the Ukrainian national team Serhiy Rebrov gave a comment after the match of the 4th round of the group stage of the League of Nationsseason 2024/25 with the Czech Republic.
A tense match at the Tarczynski Arena Wroclaw stadium in Wroclaw, Poland ended in a draw 1:1.
“It is important that we create moments. This is already the skill of the players. It is very difficult to concentrate during each moment created. In the first half there were good counterattacks, but we did not complete them and received attacks in our direction. We are working on creating moments so that they exist. It is very important that all players concentrate as much as possible in such episodes.
Overall, we needed to maintain the intensity. Georgy Sudakov showed that he had recovered, he worked for 90 minutes. Unfortunately, Nikolay Shaparenko had a slight injury, we replaced him. The players who came on added intensity. Kryskiv was called up to the national team for the first time, and the first games are always very difficult, despite the fact that the players understand each other because they play together at Shakhtar. This is the national team, it is a completely different level. Unfortunately, we did not do the main thing – we did not score a goal.
Taloverov's two matches? I am happy that he is now playing 90 minutes for his club, because he had no practice before. It is very important for the players to be in good shape. Maksim deserved that we chose him. I watched his matches in the championship, saw how he works in training. This choice was obvious. He played these two games at a very high level.
The Czech Republic? They are a powerful team that plays physical football. They played very intensely, pressing constantly. Perhaps they got a little tired at the end of the match. They really deserve the place they are in now. We have a very tough group, I am sure that in the next two matches we will fight for promotion to Division A,” the official UAF website quotes Rebrov as saying.
After four rounds, the Ukrainian team with 4 points is in last place in Group B1, which is led by the Czech Republic with 7 points. Georgia and Albania are in second and third positions, respectively, with 6 points each.
In the next fifth round of the Nations League, the Ukrainians will play Georgia away, and the Czechs will play Albania away. The matches will take place on November 16.
According to the new format of the Nations League, a participant in the group tournament in Division B, where the Ukrainian national team competes, if it takes:
- first place – will rise to Division A;
- second place – will play playoffs for promotion to Division A with the team that finishes third in the Division A group;
- third place – will play playoffs for retention in Division B with the team that finishes second in the Division C group;
- fourth place – will be relegated to Division C.
