"Takes up a lot of time": Usyk admitted what he gave up before the rematch with Fury

The Ukrainian champion shared details of his training camp before the second fight with the Briton.

WBA, WBO, WBC and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk spoke about his preparation for the rematch with Tyson Fury.

In an interview with the Ready To Fight platform, he said he had decided to give up social media during training camp ahead of his second fight with the Briton.

According to the Ukrainian boxer, this helps him not to be distracted by unimportant things and fully concentrate on the upcoming fight.

“If people talk about me on the Internet, they are interested, but not me. Yes, it is distracting, it generally takes a lot of time. During the day, you spend a lot of time on some social networks, they just take up your time.

And when you do not use them, you fill your head with some useful information. Books, learning something new. This helps you better concentrate on the work you are doing,” Usyk said.

Alexander also noted that in order to better prepare for the rematch with Fury, he brought scientists and psychologists into his training camp.

“Every preparation is different. We bring scientists, we bring new psychologists. Science, sports. Many do not understand this, but we understand what we are doing. I know that this will help me be better in the second fight with Tyson Fury.

The last camp was such that we had more than 500 rounds of sparring. In this camp, I think that maybe there will be so many, but I don’t know, because the training commission, coach Yuriy Ivanovich sets the task, they set the task, I fulfill it. If I don’t like it, I can walk around grumbling at first, but then I have to fulfill it,” Usyk said.

The Usyk-Fury rematch will take place on December 21 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). All titles held by the Ukrainian boxer will be at stake.

Unlike the first fight, this time the title of absolute world champion will not be at stake, since previously Alexander renounced the IBF title. Now it is owned by Daniel Dubois, who has already managed to defend it by knocking out Anthony Joshua.

Recall that on the night of May 19, 2024, Usyk defeated Fury by split decision in a fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion. At the end of the ninth round, Alexander knocked his opponent down.

Thus, Alexander defended the WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF belts, and also took the WBC title from the “Gypsy King”. Usyk became the first absolute world champion in the heavyweight division in the 21st century.

Before that, the last “absolute” heavyweight champion was Lennox Lewis, who won this status in 1999, when he defeated Evander Holyfield. At that time, the WBA, WBC and IBF titles were at stake. The WBO belt was recognized as equal in 2007, so Usyk became the first “absolute” heavyweight champion in history with four main titles.
