Usyk and Fury spoke at the first press conference before the rematch: what the boxers said

The Ukrainian and the Briton took part in the official event, which took place in London.

The holder of the WBA, WBO, WBC and IBO heavyweight titles Oleksandr Usyk and former champion Tyson Fury gave comments during a press conference in London dedicated to their rematch.

Including The Ukrainian spoke about his motivation for the second fight against the “Gypsy King”.

“I'm happy to be here. What's my motivation? I have no motivation, only my regime and concentration – that's my motivation. Enough,” Usyk said.

In turn, the Briton admitted that Usyk won a fair victory in the first fight.

“In fact, it's been about 4.5 years since the second fight against Wilder, the last time I was an underdog in these fights. What am I thinking about? I'm just looking forward to a fantastic fight. There was a fantastic fight in May. Alexander won the fight fairly and honestly.

“I just want to put on a great fight again. It was very close last time, I won by one point. A little more focus, a little less complacency and I have to do what I need to do. Nothing has to change radically, a little more of the same, a little more focus as I say and I will win,” Fury said.

Earlier it was reported that Usyk in the guise of “Hitman” came to the press conference before the rematch with Fury. Also, the Ukrainian and the Briton had a battle of glances.

The rematch between Usyk and Fury will take place on December 21 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). All titles held by the Ukrainian boxer will be at stake.

Unlike the first fight, this time the title of absolute world champion will not be at stake, since previously Alexanderrenounced the IBF title. Now it is owned by Daniel Dubois, who has already managed to defend it by knocking out Anthony Joshua.

Recall that on the night of May 19, 2024, Usyk defeated Fury by split decision in a fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion. At the end of the ninth round, Alexander knocked his opponent down.

Thus, Alexander defended the WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF belts, and also took the WBC title from the “Gypsy King”. Usyk became the first absolute world champion in the heavyweight division in the 21st century.

Before that, the last “absolute” heavyweight champion was Lennox Lewis, who won this status in 1999, when he defeated Evander Holyfield. At that time, the WBA, WBC and IBF titles were at stake. The WBO belt was recognized as equal in 2007, so Usyk became the first “absolute” heavyweight champion in history with four main titles.
