The outstanding Ukrainian freestyle skier, aged 36, has decided to say goodbye to professional sports.

The 2018 Olympic champion and silver medalist of the 2022 Games in aerial skiing Alexander Abramenko has announced his retirement from sports.

The 36-year-old freestyle skier spoke about this in a comment to Tribuna.com.

“Yes, I have been did not sign a contract as an athlete-instructor, passed the competition and signed a contract as the head coach of the full-time Ukrainian national team in freestyle acrobatics. I also hold the position of first vice-president of the national ski federation of Ukraine,” Abramenko said.

The last time Abramenko competed as part of the Ukrainian national team was at the beginning of the 2022/23 season. Then he competed in only one stage, after which he ended the season early due to knee problems.

In March 2023, Abramenko underwent knee surgery, after which he never returned to active performances.

Recall that Abramenko is the only Ukrainian athlete who won medals at the last two Winter Olympics: gold in 2018 and silver in 2022.
