 Not Lunin: The best goalkeeper of 2024 according to France Football has been announced

The Argentine goalkeeper of Aston Villa has received the Lev Yashin Trophy for the second time in a row Emiliano Martinez.

Goalkeeper of English “Aston Villa” and the Argentina national team Emiliano Martinez received the “Lev Yashin” trophy – an award for the best goalkeeper of 2024 according to the authoritative magazine France Football.

The 32-year-old Argentine was announced the winner in the nomination during the Golden Ball award ceremony, which takes place on October 28 at the Chatelet Theater in Paris.

Last season, Martinez won the Copa America with the Argentina national team, and also helped Aston Villa qualify for the Champions League.

In the fight for the prestigious award, Emiliano beat out nine other goalkeepers, including Real Madrid and Ukraine national team goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

In the voting for the best Goalkeeper of the Year Lunin took third place. Second place went to Athletic Bilbao and Spain national team goalkeeper Unai Simon.

The other contenders for the Lev Yashin Trophy were Diogo Costa (Porto), Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG), Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund), Mike Maignan (Milan), Giorgi Mamardashvili (Valencia), Yann Sommer (Inter Milan) and Ronwen Williams (Memelodi Sundowns).

Last season, Lunin played 31 matches for Real Madrid in all competitions, conceding 32 goals and keeping 12 clean sheets. Together with the Madrid club, Andrey won the Champions League and the Spanish championship.

Recall that last year, the winner of the Lev Yashin award was also the goalkeeper of Aston Villa and the Argentina national team, Emiliano Martinez.
