Ukraine national team in the 2024/25 Nations League: the situation for the “blue-yellows” before the last round

We analyzed all the possible scenarios for Serhiy Rebrov's team.

On Saturday, November 16, the Ukrainian national team played a draw with Georgia (1:1) in the match of the 5th round of the group stage of the League nations of the 2024/25 season. This result did not allow the “blue-yellows” to rise from the last place in the B1 quartet.

Before the final round, Serhiy Rebrov's team has 5 points, having finally lost the chance to take first place in the group and directly advance to Division A.

At the same time, the Ukrainians retain the chance to fight for second place and get into the playoffs for the right to move up a class.

We analyzed all the possible scenarios for our team before the final round of the group stage.

The tournament position in the group of the Ukrainian national team before the final round

1. Czech Republic – 8 points, 7:7 (goal difference)

2. Georgia – 7 points, 6:4

3. Albania – 7 points, 3:4

4. Ukraine – 5 points, 6:7

Possible Scenarios for the Ukrainian National Team

In the final round, Rebrov's men will play Albania in Tirana, while the Czech Republic will host Georgia. Both matches will take place on Tuesday, November 19, and will begin at 21:45 Kyiv time.

Scenario 1: Ukraine will defeat Albania, while the Czech Republic will not lose to Georgia

In this scenario, the “blue-yellows” will finish in second place and compete in the playoffs for promotion to Division A.

Even a draw in the Czech Republic – Georgia match will be enough for our team, since with the same number of points, the Ukrainians will have an advantage over the Georgians in personal meetings.

Scenario 2: Ukraine will defeat Albania, and Georgia will beat the Czech Republic

In this scenario, the Ukrainian team will take third place in its group, since with the same number of points with the Czechs, our team will be inferior to them due to the results of head-to-head matches.

The holder of third place will play playoff matches for maintaining registration in Division B with the team that finishes in second place in one of the groups of League C;

Scenario 3: Ukraine will not be able to defeat Albania

If Rebrov's team draws or loses to the Albanians, they will remain in last place in the group and will be relegated to Division C.

In this case, the parallel meeting between the Czechs and Georgians will have no tournament significance for the Ukrainian team.
