The legendary footballer noted the symbolism of the triumph of the “blue-yellows” on the 1000th day of the full-scale invasion of the Russian occupiers.

President of the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) Andriy Shevchenko commented on the victory of the Ukrainian national team over Albania (2:1) in the decisive match of the last round of the group stage of the League of Nations of the 2024/25 season.

The legendary footballer and former head coach of the “blue-yellows” thanked the national team, which managed to win on the 1000th day of the full-scale invasion of Russian occupiers into Ukraine.

“The team showed character and results on the field. The guys won the last game of the year and improved our position in the tournament. Thanks to the team and the coaching staff for this result.

A symbolic victory on the day when Ukraine crossed another border of war and continues to fight thanks to its defenders, male and female,” Shevchenko wrote on his Instagram page.

Note that the Ukrainian footballers symbolically celebrated the first goal scored in the game against the Albanians. They unfurled a national team shirt with the number “1000”, reminding the world that there is still a war going on in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian national team finished second in Group B1 with 8 points and will play in the playoffs for a ticket to Division A.The Czech Republic (11 points) won our quartet, immediately rising to the elite of the League of Nations. Georgia (7 points) came in third and will compete in the playoffs to retain their place in Division B. Albania (7 points) took the last place and was relegated to Division C.

Rebrov's team will find out their opponent in the fight for a ticket to League A on Friday, November 22, during the draw. It will be one of the teams that finished third in the groups of Division A: Scotland, Belgium, Hungary or Serbia.

The playoff matches will be held on March 20 and 23, 2025. The Ukrainian national team will be the nominal host of the first match.

Earlier it was reported that the author of the decisive goal against the Albanians, Roman Yaremchuk, spoke about the victory and reaching the playoffs for the right to advance to the elite of the League of Nations.

Recall that all participants in the 1/4 finals of the League of Nations-2024/25 have been determined, who will continue to fight for the trophy.
