"I don't want to take risks and fight": Ukrainian volleyball player explains why he didn't return after going abroad

Dmytro Shavrak said that he received threats after deciding to leave his homeland.

Reshetilovka volleyball player Dmytro Shavrak, who  didn't return to Ukraine after the Challenge Cup match in Belgium, commented on his decision.

The athlete said that he didn't wants to take risks and fight. He also admitted that after deciding not to return to his homeland, he began to receive threats regarding his mother.

In addition, Shavrak said that he loves Ukraine and plans to return home immediately after the end of the war.

“We'll see. I also hope to find a new team, but if that doesn't work, I might leave volleyball. When I return to Ukraine, as soon as the war is over, I might be able to return to Reshetilovka.

In any case, I hope that the club will continue to exist, and that our other teammates will be left alone, which may not be easy after our escape.

We love our country, so we definitely want to return. Most people also understand our choice, although I received calls threatening to do something to my mother if I don't return. But I don't want to take risks and fight,” Shavrak said in a conversation with the Belgian publication KW.be.

Earlier it was reported that at least two Reshetilovka players did not return to Ukraine after the Challenge Cup match against Menen, which took place in Belgium. In addition to Shavrak, Andriy Orobko also decided to stay in Europe.

Recall that in November of this year, the SK Poltava football players were taken to the TCC before the match.
