Conor McGregor found guilty of rape: how the star UFC fighter was punished

The Irishman was ordered to pay the victim a substantial amount.

Former UFC champion in two weight categories Conor McGregor was found guilty of rape Nikita Gend, which occurred in 2018 in a Dublin hotel.

This was reported by Sky Sports.

The jury ordered the 36-year-old Irishman to pay the victim 248,603 euros (206,000 pounds sterling).

The athlete received the punishment under a civil lawsuit, meaning he could not be prosecuted and sent to prison.

McGregor himself announced on social media X that he was going to appeal the court's decision, but then deleted his post.

“I will be appealing today's decision. The judge's direction and modest damages were for assault, not for aggravated harm.

I am disappointed that the jury did not hear all the evidence that the Director of Public Prosecutions considered. I am with my family now, focused on my future. Thank you for all the support around the world,” McGregor wrote.

The court found that Gend and McGregor knew each other and occasionally communicated on social media. On the night of the crime, Gend contacted a fighter who picked her up, her friend, and her in a car, after which they used cocaine. The woman claimed that she did not want to have sex with Conor, but he used force and sexually assaulted her.

McGregor has 22 wins and six losses in mixed martial arts (MMA). Conor has not participated in fights since the broken leg he sustained at the UFC 264 tournament on the night of July 11, 2021. Then the Irishman lost in the first round by knockout to American Dustin Poirier.
