The Dutch driver secured the championship with two Grands Prix left in the season.
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has become the 2024 Formula 1 champion ahead of schedule.
This happened following the Las Vegas Grand Prix, where he finished fifth, ahead of his main rival in the fight for the title, Lando Norris from the McLaren team, who became sixth.
The victory at the stage in Las Vegas was won by Mercedes driver George Russell. He was joined on the podium by Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari).
Two Grands Prix before the end of the season, Verstappen became unattainable for his competitors in the personal overall standings. The advantage of the 27-year-old Dutchman over Norris increased to 62 points.
Verstappen became Formula 1 champion for the fourth time in a row. He also won this title in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
In terms of championships won, Max tied with Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel. Only Juan Manuel Fangio (5), Lewis Hamilton (7) and Michael Schumacher (7) have more titles.
Verstappen became the fourth driver in history to win four Formula 1 championships in a row. Apart from him, this was achieved by Schumacher (2000-2004), Fangio (1954-1957), Vettel (2010-2013) and Hamilton (2017-2020).
As for the Constructors' Cup, the fight continues. McLaren leads the team standings with 593 points ahead of the final two Grands Prix, but Ferrari (557) and Red Bull (544) also remain in contention for the trophy.
The final races of the current Formula 1 season will be held in Qatar (December 1) and Abu Dhabi (December 8).
