Shakhtar goalkeeper sets record for number of saves in one Champions League match

Dmytro Riznyk has written his name into the history of the main club European tournament.

Shakhtar Donetsk goalkeeper Dmytro Riznykset a record for the number of saves in a single Champions League match.

This happened on November 27 in the fifth round of the main stage of the Champions League match against PSV.

During the entire match with the Dutch club, the 25-year-old Ukrainian goalkeeper made 15 saves.

Riznyk surpassed the achievement of Red Star goalkeeper Omri Glazer, who saved his team's goal 13 times in a match with Manchester City in the 2023/24 season.

It should be noted that even this outstanding performance by Dmitry did not help the Miners to hold on to their victory over the Dutch champion.

Having been left short-handed in the 69th minute with the score 2:0 in their favor due to the dismissal of defender Pedro Henrique, the Donetsk club conceded three goals in the last eight minutes of the match and ultimately lost with a score of 2:3.

After five rounds, the Miners occupy 26th place in the overall standings of the main round of the Champions League, having 4 points to their credit.

In the next round of the most prestigious European tournament, Shakhtar will play a nominally home match against Bayern Munich on December 10.

Recall that in the updated Champions League format, 36 clubs play in a single league, where they will play against eight different opponents (four matches at home and four away).

The eight best teams from the main stage of the Champions League will reach the 1/8 finals. The clubs that take places from 9th to 24th in the overall standings will play paired play-off matches for a place in the 1/8 finals. The rest will finish their performance in European competitions.
