"Gypsy King" again believes that he was unfairly judged.
Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury commented on his defeat in the rematch against WBC, WBA, WBO and IBO title holder Oleksandr Usyk.
The British boxer did not agree with the verdict of the judges, who unanimously gave the victory to the Ukrainian: three times 116-112.
“I thought I had won the fight again but I got treated like Larry Holmes. I was coming forward all the time. When you don't finish by knockout, things like that can happen. I felt a bit of Christmas spirit, I think he got a little Christmas present from the judges,” Fury said.
“Frank Warren (Fury's promoter – ed.) gave me a three or four round lead. A lot of people saw me winning by at least two rounds.
I don't know. Look, it is what it is. I'm not going to cry over spilled milk. It happened now. Boxing has always been in my life, and in it you can't change any decisions. That's what happens when you don't knock your opponent out,” the Briton said at a press conference after the fight.
It should be noted that the “Gypsy King” also did not admit his defeat to Usyk in the first fight. Then the Briton said that the judges gave the victory to his opponent because of the war in Ukraine.
Unlike the first fight, the Usyk-Fury rematch did not involve the title of absolute world champion, since Alexander had previously renounced the IBF title. Now it is owned by Briton Daniel Dubois, who has already managed to defend it by knocking out his compatriot Anthony Joshua.
Recall that on the night of May 19, 2024, Usyk won by split decision over Fury in a fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion. At the end of the ninth round, Alexander knocked his opponent down.
Thus, Alexander defended the WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF belts, and also took the WBC title from the “Gypsy King”. Usyk became the first absolute world champion in the heavyweight division in the 21st century.
Before that, the last “absolute” heavyweight champion was Lennox Lewis, who won this status in 1999, when he defeated Evander Holyfield. At that time, the WBA, WBC and IBF titles were at stake. The WBO belt was recognized as equal in 2007, so Usyk became the first “absolute” heavyweight champion in history with four main titles.
