Usyk's ex-coach reacted to his victory in the rematch with Fury and advised the Ukrainian to end his career

Usyk's ex-coach reacted to his victory in the rematch with Fury and advised the Ukrainian to end his career

James Ali Bashir believes that Alexander has nothing more to prove in the ring.

James Ali Bashir, the former coach of WBA, WBO, WBC and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, commented on his victory in the rematch with Tyson Fury.

In his opinion, Alexander managed to win the fight relatively easily. One of the reasons he named was the failed strategy of the “Gypsy King”, who looked confused in the ring.

“Oleksandr Usyk defeated Fury relatively easily in the rematch. In my opinion, the fight was not even close. I can give Tyson 4 rounds. At times, Tyson looked confused, he did not know what he was doing. The strategy, if there was one, was terrible. It seemed like he did not know what to do.

Fury was worried, unsure of himself. The referee didn't warn him for putting his glove on Usyk's face. He looked very nervous and when he started boxing Usyk, I knew it was a terrible idea,” Bashir said in a commentary for Seconds Out.

Bashir also advised his former protégé to end his career after the victory over Fury. He believes that Usyk has nothing left to prove in the ring.

“Personally, I would suggest that Usyk retire, just retire. He has nothing left to prove. He has done everything he needs to do. I would not try to compete anymore, I would hang up the gloves.

I have heard talk that he wants to go back to cruiserweight or move up to bridgeweight, but I think it would be wise to pack your bags and go home to your family while your health is good.

He has a lot of money, a lot of success, he has one of the most brilliant careers in recent boxing history, and he is undefeated. I want to say that it would be a good time to retire now. I don’t see anyone who could beat Oleksandr Usyk. They all came, but he sent them all back,” Bashir summed up.

Unlike the first fight, the title of absolute world champion was not at stake in the Usyk-Fury rematch, since Alexander had previously refused the IBF title. Now it is owned by the Briton Daniel Dubois, who has already managed to defend it by knocking out his compatriot Anthony Joshua.

Recall that on the night of May 19, 2024, Usyk defeated Fury by split decision in a fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion. At the end of the ninth round, Alexander knocked his opponent down.

Usyk became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the 21st century and the first in history “absolute” heavyweight with four main titles – WBO, WBA, IBF and WBC.
