"Not a single weak spot": Famous trainer explains why Usyk defeated Fury

Teddy Atlas analyzed the course of the second fight between the Ukrainian and the Briton.

Authoritative American boxing trainer Teddy Atlas spoke about the holder of the WBA, WBO, WBC and IBO titles in the heavyweight division Oleksandr Usyk and his victory in rematch with Tyson Fury.

In his opinion, the Ukrainian is one of the best boxers of his era, since he does not have a single weak spot. The expert believes that Usyk's main advantage is his mental strength.

“Usyk knows how to win, he'll find a way to win, he'll find a way to win. I thought Tyson would be better and he was better. He was better, give him credit, because he changed his strategy a little bit, instead of just running around the ring and letting Alexander pressure him like he did in the first fight. He used his reach, he didn't let him get close. He didn't let him pressure him all over the ring, and that's what wears you down. And Tyson did a much better job.

Usyk came out in the sixth round, dominated it, took the seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth. I thought he took the eleventh. He lost the twelfth, and there were rounds that were close, where Tyson tried to snatch the victory at the end, and he did it well, but when you throw one or two punches and the other one throws five or six. The sixth round – Alexander did what winners do.

Usyk has earned the right to be mentioned among all the top fighters, he is one of the great winners of our era. And the most interesting thing is that there is nothing that he does not do well. He does everything very well. He does not have a single weak spot, but the most important thing is his mental strength, he always controls himself,” Atlas said in an interview with Pro Boxing Fans.

Unlike the first fight, the Usyk-Fury rematch did not have the title of absolute world champion at stake, since Alexander had previously given up the IBF title. Now it is owned by Briton Daniel Dubois, who has already managed to defend it by knocking out his compatriot Anthony Joshua.

After Usyk's victory over Fury in the rematch, Dubois climbed into the ring and challenged the Ukrainian to a fight. Alexander agreed and asked to organize a fight with Daniel, whom he had already knocked out in August 2023.

Recall that on the night of May 19, 2024, Usyk defeated Fury by split decision in a fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion. At the end of the ninth round, Alexander knocked his opponent down.

Usyk became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the 21st century and the first in the history of the “absolute” heavyweight with four main titles – WBO, WBA, IBF and WBC.
