Marta stopped playing at the major, failing to reach the 1/8 finals.

The first racket of Ukraine Marta Kostyuk (No. 18 WTA) failed to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open-2025.

In the third round match of the main draw, the 22-year-old native of Kyiv lost to Spaniard Paula Badoz(No. 12 WTA). The tense match lasted 2 hours and 34 minutes and ended with a score of 4:6, 6:4, 3:6.

During the time spent on the court, Kostyuk served six times aces, made 16 double faults, made 4 breaks and lost 5 games on her serve.

This was the fifth face-to-face meeting between the tennis players. Marta was able to defeat the Spaniard only once, losing the other four matches.

In the 1/8 finals of the Australian major, Badosa will play against Serbian Olga Danilovic (No. 55 WTA) or American Jessica Pegula (No. 6 WTA).

Kostyuk played in the main draw of the Australian Open for the sixth time. Her highest achievement at this Grand Slam tournament remains last year's quarterfinals.

Thus, Ukraine is left with two tennis players in the singles of the Australian Open 2025 – Dayana Yastremska (No. 33 WTA) and Elina Svitolina (No. 27 WTA), who will play their third round matches on Saturday, January 18. Yastremska will face Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan (No. 7 WTA), and Svitolina will compete with Italian Jasmine Paolini (No. 4 WTA).

The main draw matches of the Australian Open 2025 will be held from January 12 to 26. The current champion of the tournament is Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, who is playing in a neutral status due to the full-scale war of Russian occupiers against Ukraine.

Recall that in the singles tournament of the Australian Open-2024, the best result among Ukrainian tennis players was shown by Yastremska, who reached the semi-finals, where she lost to Chinese Zheng Qinwen.
