Yastremska loses to world No. 7 and leaves Australian Open 2025

Yastremska lost to the world's seventh racket and left the Australian Open-2025

Dajana was unable to repeat her last year's achievement when she reached the semifinals of the Australian major.

Ukrainian tennis player Dajana Yastremska (No. 33 WTA) finished her performance at the Australian Open-2025.

In the third round match of the main draw, the 24-year-old native of Odessa lost to Elena Rybakina (No. 7 WTA), who represents Kazakhstan. The match lasted 1 hour 24 minutes and ended with a score of 3:6, 4:6.

During the time spent on the court, Yastremska made 5 aces, made eight double faults, converted one break point out of four, and also lost three games on her serve. This was the first face-to-face meeting between the tennis players.

In the 1/8 finals, Rybakina will play against the winner of the match between Americans Madison Keys (No. 14 WTA) and Danielle Collins (No. 11 WTA).

Yastremska played in the main draw of the Australian Open for the sixth time. Last year, she reached the semifinals of the Australian major, where she lost to Chinese Zheng Qingwen. This is her highest achievement in the Grand Slam tournaments.

Earlier, the first racket of Ukraine Marta Kostyuk (No. 18 WTA) failed to overcome the third round of the Australian Open-2025, who lost to the Spaniard Paula Badosa (No. 12 WTA).

Thus, only Elina Svitolina (No. 27 WTA) remains to represent Ukraine in singles at the Australian Open-2025, who will play a third round match against Italian Jasmine Paolini (No. 4 WTA) on Saturday, January 18.

The main draw matches of the Australian Open-2025 will be held from January 12 to 26. The current champion of the tournament is Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, who is playing in neutral status due to the full-scale war of Russian occupiers against Ukraine.
