Biathletes Darina Chalyk and Oleksandra Merkushyna won gold and silver in the mass start.

The Ukrainian national team won two more medals at the 2025 Winter Universiade, which is taking place in Turin, Italy. In the women's biathlon mass start, Daryna Chalyk won gold, and Alexandra Merkushyna became a silver medalist.

Despite three misses at the shooting range, Chalyk finished first. Merkushyna, with two inaccurate shots, was 38.9 seconds behind her compatriot. German Louise Müller took bronze.

The third Ukrainian Liliya Steblina closed out the top 15. She showed the worst shooting in the race – eight missed targets.

For Chalyk, this is the third medal of the Universiade in Turin. Previously, she won two “bronze”: in the short individual race and pursuit.

Merkushina has two awards of the current Universiade to her credit. Previously, she won “gold” in the single mixed relay together with Sergei Suprun.

“Gold” and “silver” in the women's mass start is not the first double podium for Ukraine at the 2025 Winter Universiade. Earlier, Bohdan Borkovsky and Sergei Suprun wongold and silver medals, respectively, in the men's biathlon pursuit race.

Thus, Ukraine completed the biathlon competitions of the 2025 Universiade as the leader in the medal standings. Ukrainian biathletes won a total of nine awards, four of which were gold.

In total, the Ukrainian team has 11 medals at the 2025 Winter Universiade (4 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze). Our student team currently ranks eighth in the medal standings.
