Patrick Muratoglu – about the disqualification of Yannik Sinner: “It looks like a parody of justice”

Patrick Muratoglu, ex-coach of Serena Williams, Holger Rune and Simona Halep, now working with Naomi Osaka, commented on a three-month disqualification of the first racket of the Asia Minor Sinner

“ I think that the Sinner case – This is a huge scandal. The point is not whether it is to blame or not, the question is more in how the anti -doping bodies coped with the situation. Everyone feels that there are double standards, but they are, it is obvious. It is very unlikely that he [purposefully] used doping, firstly – And this is my personal point of view – I do not think that this is his way of thinking, I do not think that this is his mentality – Doping. Secondly, when someone finds such a low level of the prohibited drug, in 90% of cases, if not more, this is pollution. So, the athlete is a victim, and that is why I believe that he is not to blame.

When the player finds a positive result, in 100% of cases it is the anti -doping [agencies] who make a public statement. As soon as this statement comes out, the player temporarily removes, which means that he is no longer allowed to act – Until the case is completed and a decision was made that it is guilty or not. In the case of Sinner, ITIA, the anti-doping [agency] decided to hide this, they did not release the information that his doping industry was positive, they did not say anything that he was temporarily suspended, as it would be with any another player. Therefore, these are clearly double standards. We want pure sports, but there is no pure sport if there are double standards, depending on who is the player. It should only be about whether this doping player used? Yes or not?

Secondly, five months later they decided to publish this information that he had a positive test five months ago, and at the same time they said that he was not to blame. But in other cases, the player is allegedly to blame, because there is a public statement that he had a positive result, therefore, for 5-6 months, perhaps 1-2 years in some cases, for everyone this player is those who used Doping, and during this period it cannot compete anymore. He cannot earn glasses, he cannot receive money, but, first of all, he leaves the competition for such a long period that in some cases his career ends, so they destroy his career. In the case of Sinner, again, there was no statement, and when they did it five months later, it already meant that it was not to blame.

During the Australian Open, we learned that in April WADA hears him, so we thought that it would be like a real tribunal that would appreciate the case and decide whether it is guilty or not. Immediately after the Melbourne, six weeks before the hearing was to take place, they decided to make a decision after a three -month disqualification agreement. No hearing, no revision of the case, and the solution that is ideal for him, because he can play at the Australian Open Championship – and win it – And then he will definitely be able to play on the next “Majore”, on Roland Garros, which will take place at the end of May – early June.

So, it seems that they agreed to make it look like it was removed a little, but not too much so that he could play at Grand Slam tournaments. And, if you look, he will be able to return and play in Rome immediately in front of Roland Garros – Since he is Italian. So more likely that it was all planned. It looks like a parody of justice, and I understand that other players feel, they say, where is justice then? ”

Recall that the ex-first racket of the world Romanian tennis player Simone Halep received four years of disqualification for violation of anti-doping rules during collaboration with Patrick Muratoglu.
