New rules will be introduced in football from next season.
The International Federation of Association Football Board (IFAB) has approved changes for next season. If the goalkeeper holds the ball for more than 8 seconds, the referee will award a corner kick (while the referee keeps a visual count for five seconds), then the referee will award a corner kick to the opposing team
Currently, a penalty kick is awarded if the ball is held for more than six seconds. The federation made this decision because of the positive trend of holding the ball for too long.
IFAB also adopted new rules for video referees, giving them the ability to announce the result after a VAR review or lengthy review.
The new rules will come into force at the Club World Championship, which starts on June 14
