FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the organization is ready to play its role in concluding a peace agreement in the war against Russia.
According to the head, it is important that the organization maintains peace throughout the world.
“We all hope that the peace talks will be successful because I think it is important that we support peace in the world, not just in football.
If football can play any role in establishing peace, then of course we will play our role, and we hope that all countries in the world will be able to play football,” Infantino said.
The head noted that US President Trump did not ask him to consider the possibility of re-admitting the Russian team to the 2026 World Cup
“No, I wasn't asked. I think there are more important topics to discuss when you talk about the world than football. But we want all countries to play,” Infantino said.
Let us recall that the 2026 World Cup qualification for European teams starts at the end of March. The Ukrainian team will miss the first rounds due to participation in the League of Nations playoffs.
