The Merseysiders achieved a comeback victory over Southampton.
Liverpool beat Southampton in a home match of the 28th round of the English Premier League (EPL) of the 2024/25 season. The match at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool ended with a score of 3:1 .
The visitors took the lead at the end of the first half, with William Smallbone scoring in the 45+1 minute.
In the second half, Arne Sloth's team turned the game around. In the 52nd minute, Darwin Nunez equalized the score.
Then in the 54th minute, Mohamed Salah put the Merseysiders ahead, converting a penalty. In the 88th minute, Salah set the final score of the game, scoring a brace from the penalty spot.

After this victory, Liverpool (70 points) continues to confidently lead the Premier League. The Merseyside club increased the gap from its closest pursuer, Arsenal, which has two games in hand, to 16 points.
Southampton are at the bottom of the Premier League table with just 9 points. They are 13 points behind 17th place, which would allow them to stay in the top division next season.
On March 11, Liverpool will play the return match of the 1/8 finals of the Champions League at home against PSG (the first game in Paris ended with a minimal victory for the Reds with a score of 1:0).
In turn, Southampton will host Wolverhampton in an EPL match on March 15.
