Svitolina and Kostyuk advance to 1/8 finals of Indian Wells tournament, Yastremska eliminated

Two Ukrainians continue to fight for the prestigious trophy.

The third round matches of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, USA, took place, following which Ukrainian tennis players Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk advanced to the 1/8 finals, while Dayana Yastremska failed to do so.

Yastremska lost to the world's second-ranked player, Iga Swiatek, from Poland, with a score of 0:6, 2:6.

Svitolina defeated American Danielle Collins with a score of 6:2, 6:4.

Kostyuk beat another US representative, Caroline Dolehide, with a score of 6:3, 6:3.

In the 1/8 finals, Kostyuk will play against the eighth seeded Chinese Zheng Qingwen, and Svitolina will compete with the fourth racket of the world, American Jessica Pegula.

It should be noted that another Ukrainian, Angelina Kalinina (No. 54 WTA), competed at the tournament in Indian Wells, and lost to Italian Lucia Bronzetti (No. 62 WTA) in the first round – 4:6, 5:7.

Earlier it was reported that Svitolina regained her title of Ukraine's number one tennis player, overtaking Kostyuk in the WTA rankings.
