Domenicali to hold talks on Thailand race

We have already reported that the Formula 1 calendar may include another stage on a city track. The Thai government is interested in holding the Bangkok Grand Prix.

Last year, former Thai Prime Minister Settha Thaveesin met Formula 1 President Stefano Domenicali twice, the first meeting after the Chinese Grand Prix and the second at Imola. However, Thaveesin was sacked in the summer, leading to a pause in talks.

Stefano Domenicali said in Melbourne on Friday that he would travel to Thailand after the Australian Grand Prix to hold talks about a potential Grand Prix.

Stefano Domenicali: “In the last few years we have focused on those countries that we believe represent the future of Formula 1. But we also receive applications from other places around the world. In fact, after the race in Melbourne I will fly to Bangkok to see if there is potential interest from the local authorities in hosting the race.

We receive applications from different countries in Europe, we see interest from Africa, and now interest from South America.”

In 2025, the Formula 1 calendar includes 24 stages, and the teams are against further expansion. Liberty Media is also not ready to expand the calendar, so if new tracks are added, they will replace the current ones or on a rotation basis.
