Melbourne Grand Prix troublemakers arrested

Victoria Police have confirmed the arrest of two local bloggers who entered the circuit on the day of the Australian Grand Prix using fake security passes – an incident we reported on a week ago.

After the race, the two posted a video on social media documenting their “adventure”: once on the track, they were able to get into areas where access is restricted and where outsiders are not allowed. For example, when the cars were on the track, they were located near the side of the road on the outside of the protective barriers.

Race organisers, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, contacted police, who investigated and confirmed that two security offenders were arrested yesterday on charges of illegally impersonating security personnel.

They turned out to be two 18-year-old Melbourne residents, their homes were searched, as a result of which computers and other “electronic devices” were seized, after which both were questioned by police.

One is charged with 10 counts, the other with seven, including, according to a police statement, offences such as “obtaining a financial advantage by fraud, making false documents and illegally entering a building.”

The videos that the violators managed to publish on social networks have already been deleted, and their authors will appear in court in June.
