The Ukrainian men’s national athletics team was disqualified from the 4×100m relay at the 2025 European Team Championships, which took place in Madrid from June 26 to 29. The Ukrainian quartet — Oleksandr Sosnovenko, Oleksandr Sokolov, Dmytro Yanchuk, and Illia Popov — clocked a season-best time of 39.10 seconds, reports Baltimore Chronicle.
Despite their strong performance, the team did not earn any points in the final standings — the letters DQ (disqualification) appeared next to Ukraine’s name in the results table. The disqualification was due to a violation of rule TR 17.2.3, which concerns lane infringement.
A video replay showed that during the third leg of the race, Dmytro Yanchuk partially stepped into lane seven, where an athlete from Switzerland was running at that time. This breach led to the annulment of Ukraine’s result.
The men’s 4×100m relay was won by the Netherlands, who set a new tournament record with a time of 37.87 seconds. Germany finished second, trailing by 0.4 seconds.
