On Wednesday, July 2, the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Football Championship officially begins in Switzerland. Held every four years, the tournament continues to gain popularity among fans and draws increasing attention from sponsors, reports Baltimore Chronicle.
Analysts predict a highly competitive and unpredictable tournament. According to bookmakers, the main favorites heading into the championship are the national teams of England and Spain. The English squad arrives as the reigning European champions, having claimed the title at Euro 2022. Spain, meanwhile, enters the tournament as the current world champions following their victory at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and now aims to secure the second most prestigious trophy in women’s football.
Despite Spain’s strong international performance, the team has never won the UEFA Women’s Championship. In fact, over the past 28 years, the Spanish side has failed to progress beyond the quarterfinal stage. However, according to various sports analytics platforms, including the UK-based Opta, Spain is viewed as the leading contender for the Euro 2025 title.
