AUSTIN, Texas — Thousands of runners are preparing to participate in the 2026 Ascension Seton Austin Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K, which will take place on Sunday, February 15, starting at 7 a.m. The event will result in extensive road closures across the city as participants navigate the 26.2-mile course, Baltimore Chronicle reports, with reference to kvue.
The race begins at the intersection of Congress Avenue and East Cesar Chavez Street and finishes near Congress and Ninth Street. City officials have provided detailed schedules of road closures, specifying the times streets will be blocked and reopened.
Over two dozen streets and intersections will be affected throughout the day. Key closures include Congress Avenue at Cesar Chavez Street (mile marker 0), S. Congress Avenue at Gibson Street (mile marker 1), and S. Congress Avenue at Oltorf Street (mile marker 2). Roads in South and Northeast Austin, including S. First Street, Riverside Drive, Lamar Boulevard, Stephen F. Austin Drive, Lake Austin Boulevard, Enfield Road, Guadalupe Street, Speedway, Red River Street, Duval Street, E. Dean Keeton Street, Chicon Street, Pleasant Valley Road, Tillery Street, E. 5th Street, E. Cesar Chavez Street, and 11th Street, will also close at scheduled times between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., reopening progressively from late morning into the afternoon.
Officials advise residents and commuters to plan alternate routes in advance and monitor local traffic updates. The city emphasizes that public safety personnel and volunteers will be present along the course to manage traffic and assist runners. Spectators are encouraged to view the marathon from designated areas to avoid disruptions.
Participants can access the official route map on the marathon’s website to see all mile markers and intersections affected by closures. The event is expected to last throughout Sunday morning and early afternoon, with the final roads reopening by approximately 2:30 p.m.
