Spanish singer Rosalía has revealed that her new album Lux features songs performed in thirteen different languages, including Ukrainian. She discussed the creative process behind the project in an interview with Popcast, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to Popcast.
According to Rosalía, the album’s lyrics are written in multiple languages — from her native Spanish and Catalan to English, Latin, Sicilian, Ukrainian, Arabic, German, and several others. The singer spent more than two years working on the record, dedicating a large part of that time to learning how to write and perform convincingly in languages other than her own.
Rosalía explained that the process was complex and required deep focus. She shared that she often relied on translation tools, explored how each language sounded, and experimented with rhyme and phrasing to maintain both lyrical meaning and musical rhythm. “There were endless attempts to find the right tone. Google Translate, sessions with translators, dozens of rewrites. I spent an entire year just working on lyrics,” the artist noted.
The pop star emphasized that no artificial intelligence was used in the making of the album. She described the creative journey as assembling “a puzzle or a maze,” where each language opened a new perspective on her artistry. Rosalía said that her decision to record in multiple languages came “from love, curiosity, and the desire to better understand others.”
