Türkiye could send its military to Ukraine. However, Ankara will not participate in any peacekeeping mission unless it is involved in all consultations and preparations for its formation.
RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to Bloomberg.
Anonymous sources said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the issue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during separate meetings in Ankara earlier this month.
Bloomberg noted that US President Donald Trump is working on a plan to secure a ceasefire in Ukraine with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. At the same time, he said he would support the participation of European allies in peacekeeping forces and providing security guarantees to Ukraine, although he ruled out a direct role for the US.
That makes Turkey's offer to help monitor a potential ceasefire critical to easing the burden on European allies, including Britain and France, who are drawing up plans for a European-led peacekeeping force in Ukraine.
The sources stressed that Türkiye will not participate in any peacekeeping mission unless it is involved in all consultations and preparations for its formation.
Significantly, both France and Britain have already said they are prepared to deploy troops to Ukraine as part of a package of security guarantees aimed at securing any peace settlement, provided that the US provides support and backs the initiative.
Turkey's Role in Ukraine-Russia Negotiations
Let us recall that Türkiye is actively participating in the negotiations on the exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia.
