In the first month of 2025, more than 6.7 million passenger cars were sold worldwide. According to statistics, in January, the global car market grew by 1.9 percent compared to the same month in 2024, to 6,782,098 cars.

RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to GlobalData.

Most passenger cars were bought in China, although the local market has dropped slightly compared to January last year. The United States is in second place in terms of car sales, and Western Europe is in third place.

The Chinese purchased 1,963,464 cars at the beginning of the year, which is 1.4 percent less than the figure for January 2024. New car sales in the United States in January amounted to 1,108,924 units, which is 4.5 percent more than a year ago. The markets of Western European countries showed a total result of 1,008,694 cars sold, which is 3.2 percent less than in January 2024. Car sales in Eastern Europe at the beginning of the year decreased by 2.9 percent, to 288,524 units.

In South America, 225,619 new cars were sold in the month, which corresponds to an increase of 22.3 percent compared to January 2024. Among the world's largest auto markets, Japan (372,441 units; +11.9 percent), Canada (111,838 units; +0.2 percent) and South Korea (104,042 units; -9.3 percent) are also mentioned.
