Ukrainian Navy Commander Oleksiy Neizhpapa hinted at possible preparations by the Defense Forces for a new attack on the Kerch Bridge. Previous Ukrainian attacks have weakened Russian logistics.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to a publication by The Guardian.
Speaking to British media, Vice Admiral Neizhpapa expressed optimism that the Ukrainian army would succeed in destroying the Kerch Bridge, which Russia illegally built to connect its territory with occupied Crimea.
“The Russians understand that we are actively discussing a third operation. There is a saying: God loves a trinity,” he said, smiling.
He said Russian troops could no longer transport heavy rail cars across the railway bridge after two previous Ukrainian strikes damaged the road and rail structure.
Ukrainian attacks on the Kerch Bridge
In October 2022, Ukraine carried out a successful attack on the Kerch Bridge using a truck filled with explosives. The explosion caused the collapse of two spans of the road section of the bridge and damaged the railway track.
In July 2023, a second attack took place, during which Ukrainian Sea Baby naval drones struck the bridge, causing significant damage to the road surface and hampering the logistical supply of Russian troops.
These operations were aimed at disrupting the supply of military equipment and ammunition to Russian troops stationed in Crimea.
Last July, Neizhpapa said that the Kerch Bridge needed to be destroyed to liberate Crimea. The structure, he said, still serves as a supply chain for the occupation forces, although not in the same volumes as before the attacks.
