The new Mitsubishi Outlander crossover will abandon the Renault-Nissan platform. Insiders claim that the fifth-generation crossover will not be based on the CMF-CD architecture of the alliance. According to preliminary data, the Mitsubishi Outlander will switch to its own platform, as it was before.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to CarBuzz.

Representatives of the “three diamonds” declined to comment. There are at least two years until the debut of the new Outlander, so the current model still awaits restyling and expansion of the lineup.

The source made it clear to the publication that the rejection of the Renault-Nissan platform was caused by the “collapse of the alliance.” However, the current generation of the crossover will not be affected by the changes: according to sources in the company, the model will soon receive a hybrid version, as well as an off-road version of the Trail Edition with extended plastic decor.

In 2027, the Mitsubishi Outlander with increased cross-country ability will also debut under the name Rugged Edition, and this modification will be the last one before retirement. Probably, in the fifth generation, the crossover will be unified with the future flagship, which is known under the code name DST. Nothing is known about the technical component of the new product yet.

Mitsubishi wants to remain independent, but its sales in the key U.S. market are falling. Dealer costs are rising, the model lineup is aging, and the updated Outlander has not been a hit. The Japanese automaker does not have the funds to become independent, and Nissan and Renault hold large stakes in the company.
