Toyota has halted production of the RAV4 crossover following a fatal incident. It is reported that an explosion occurred at a factory of a key supplier: one worker was killed, two were injured.
RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to Automotive News.
The extraordinary circumstances have disrupted supply chains, and Toyota has had to suspend production at two plants. Three assembly lines, which produce the RAV4, Harrier and Venza, will be idle. How long the delay will last is not yet specified.
The explosion occurred at the Chuo Spring Co plant, a Toyota Group company that manufactures suspension springs and electrical wiring cables. A fatal accident at work will likely trigger an investigation, so insiders are not prepared to predict when the RAV4 will return to production.
This is not the first time that Japan has experienced an emergency at its production facilities. In October 2023, an explosion also occurred at a Toyota supplier, and eight factories and 13 production lines were shut down for ten days.
